lay readers commissioning

Lay Readers Commissioned

In the evening of Sunday, September 17, a special service was held at the All Saints’ Anglican Cathedral in downtown Edmonton to commission over 50 lay readers and hospital visitors for their work within the Diocese of Edmonton. Some of these people were being newly-commissioned and some were being recommissioned for these needed and Jesus-directed ministries.

The worship service is similar to baptism, with those being commissioned openly stating their vows to lead these church ministries and those in attendance publicly offering their pledges of support. All were given a licence document and a medal, indicating their attainment of this order, by Bishop Jane.

Representing our parish were lay readers Sandra McIntosh, Dianne Brown, and Ian Bowden. Supporting them were about ten members of our parish, including Reverend Joanne.
